Cuisinart DGB-600BC Review

If you are a coffee junkie like me there’s no doubt you know that the best coffee comes from fresh ground beans. That’s part of what makes the Cuisinart DGB-600BC so special - it grinds the beans and then immediately brews the coffee. Not only that, but you can program it to grind and brew whenever you want so you can wake up first thing in the morning to tasty coffee from fresh ground beans without the hassle of having to get out of bed to make it.

In this Cuisinart DGB-600BC review I’ll take a look at the pros and cons of the DGB-600BC so hopefully you will have a better idea of whether it is the right coffee maker for you or not.

Let’s start by taking a quick look at what this coffee maker can do:

Overview of the Cuisinart DGB-600BC

Featuring an elegant and sophisticated European inspired design, one of the first things you will probably notice about this coffee maker is how great it looks. The looks are just the beginning, however.

It has a 10 (5 oz.) cup double-wall insulated thermal carafe which is designed to keep your coffee piping hot for hours. That means that even if you are a slow coffee drinker you can still enjoy hot coffee long after it has been brewed - no having to heat it up in the microwave.

To make coffee, you just add beans and water and then either start it brewing or program it to brew at a later time. When the time comes it will automatically grind the coffee beans and start brewing. Another nice option is that you are not limited to only using beans. If you want to use coffee that is already ground you can bypass the grind feature and just brew the coffee.

It has a charcoal water filter that filters chlorine and other odors from your tap water so you coffee tastes great.

As great as it sounds, just like with any product, the Cuisinart DBG-600BC has both pros and cons. I’d like to take a minute to outline both the good and less good features of the coffee maker for you so you can make an informed decision of whether or not it will work for you.

The Pros of the DGB-600BC

  • It can be programmed to grind and brew coffee on demand, making it perfect for having fresh coffee in the mornings, or even when you get home for work or after dinner.
  • You can choose to either grind beans or use ground coffee
  • The coffee tastes great - rich and fresh - thanks to the fresh ground beans as well as the water filter
  • It looks great and really dresses up a counter…plus it saves space over having both a coffee maker and a grinder
  • The thermal caraffe really does keep the coffee piping hot and ready to go whenever you are. Not only that, but it keeps the coffee from picking up a stale or burnt taste if it has been on for awhile
  • It automatically shuts off when the coffee is done brewing which keeps the coffee from burning and also helps to save on electricity.
  • It beeps to tell you when the coffee is done which is actually a lot handier than I thought it would be.
  • It’s nice that you can choose the 1-4 cup mode if you don’t need to make a full pot

The Cons of the DGB-600BC

  • There are a lot of parts to clean and it can be more time consuming than cleaning a regular coffee maker. However, keep in mind that all the parts are dishwasher safe and you also won’t be having to clean a coffee grinder.
  • The grinder is fairly noisy, although not really any noisier than a regular coffee grinder. As far as I know there are no coffee grinders on the market that grind silently. If it is an issue you could always grind the beans the night before and then brew in the morning.
  • It is hard to tell how much coffee is left in the caraffe since you can’t see into it.
  • The coffee pours rather slowly out of the caraffe, and although this doesn’t bother me, it does seem to bother some people. If you like to get your cup full in a hurry this may be a problem for you.

Overall Review of & Thoughts on the Cuisinart DGB-600BC

Overall, I believe this is a really great coffee maker and that it does exactly what it was designed to do - make great coffee. The convenience of being able to program both the grinding and brewing as well as the fact that the coffee doesn’t get the burnt or stale taste after sitting for awhile is another fantastic feature.

It does take a little more cleanup effort than a standard coffee maker, however, it is not “unbearable” or too time consuming. It’s really not that much different than if you had to clean both a coffee maker and a coffee grinder. As for the noise of the grinder, I believe that would only be a problem for some people in the mornings if they were trying to sleep and the coffee maker happened to be close by.

All in all, though, I would recommend this coffee maker to anyone who wants to make a great cup of coffee with a fun machine, and who doesn’t mind a little extra cleanup.
